Why study the story of Jacob?
We worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Knowing the stories of our patriarchs and God’s covenant with them helps us understand the rest of the Bible.
Jacob is a key figure in the Bible. His sons gave rise to the twelve tribes of Israel. It was Jacob’s family of 70 who journeyed to Egypt, and it was Jacob’s descendants who exited Egypt by the thousands under the leadership of Moses.
Jacob rightly represents God’s people who waver between trusting in God and trusting in something else. Although Jacob vacillated between trusting God and trusting in his own plans, God did not waver in his faithfulness to Jacob.
